How does a grease separator work?

The grease separator is used in industrial and catering plants, from which fats and oils of plant and animal origin can be released into the environment. Their use is mandatory in large kitchens, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, food distribution centers, slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, etc.

The grease separator complies with the SIST EN 1825-1 standard and consists of two parts, a sludge settler and a grease collector. In the sludge settler, the flow of wastewater calms down, heavier particles settle to the bottom. In a grease trap, however, oils and fats that have a lower density separate from water and remain on the surface. Purified water flows into the outlet through the knee, which is submerged below the level of fats and oils.

Material

ROTO grease separators are made of polyethylene (PE), which is suitable for storing fecal water and fats. It is characterized by a long service life and low weight, as well as excellent resistance to household liquids (oils, greases, household cleaners, …).

Formula for calculating the appropriate grease separator size

Size can calculated by the formula:

NG = Qs * fd * ft * fr * fm

Qs – the amount of waste water in l/s
fd – density of grease (if it is greater or lesser than 0.94 g/cm3
ft – temperature factor (if higher than 50 °C, is increased)
fr – detergents factor
fm – increased grease factor
